Dr. Avishay Klein is a proven legal professional possessing a unique combination of expertise and experience. With a deep understanding of the various privacy and data protection regulations and years of experience in both academia and the private sector, Avishay brings a practical perspective to the ever-changing global regulatory framework, while simultaneously navigating complex legal issues in the field of law and technology.
Avishay holds a PhD with a specialization in Law & Technology. He previously served as an in-house data protection officer (DPO) for Amdocs Group, one of the biggest enterprises in the telecommunications and software industry. This experience gives Avishay a unique viewpoint and allows him to provide clients with comprehensive practical guidance on complying with artificial intelligence and data protection regulations, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and in building and implementing global privacy compliance programs.
His work encompasses advising on regulatory inquiries, cyber crisis management, compliance programs, and various privacy and compliance-related matters, including commercial agreements and M&A activities. Avishay also works with companies to develop comprehensive customized incident response plans, provides DPO services, conducts privacy audits, trains staff, and addresses key issues with boards of directors and executive management.
Avishay is the co-founder of Israel DPO Forum, a member of the Israel Tech Policy Institute’s Advisory Board, and an adjunct professor in the fields of internet law, privacy, and cyber regulation.
Avishay is a member of the Israel Tech Policy Institute’s Advisory Board, and holds two of the most respected certifications in the fields of privacy and privacy protection, issued by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP):

Precedent-setting ruling by a US court on a copyright lawsuit against an artificial intelligence platform
A US court (in Delaware) recently handed down a precedent-setting ruling on a lawsuit filed by a copyright-owner, the media and technology conglomerate, Thomson Reuters, against the artificial intelligence platform, Ross Intelligence. The Delaware court ruled that the defendant had infringed the plaintiff’s copyrights, and that the defendant is not entitled to any of the statutory protections, including reliance on the “fair use” doctrine as a defense.

Significant Shift in the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority’s Definition of Consent
The Israeli Privacy Protection Authority has issued a new statement introducing a significant change in the interpretation of the law and in the required methods for obtaining consent to the collection and processing of personal data. While the dry wording of the law enabled reliance on tacit or tacit consent, the PPA now clarifies that explicit, informed and free consent must be prioritized.
