Before Launching a Promotional Sweepstakes in Israel, Ensure You Have a Permit

Section 225 of the Penal Law prohibits, among other things, holding sweepstakes. A sweepstakes is any arrangement that enables participants to win cash, a cash equivalent, or another benefit, where winning depends more on chance than on understanding or ability. Holding a sweepstakes without an appropriate permit is a criminal offense, even where the organizer’s intentions are innocent and the sweepstakes is intended solely to promote its business.

Israel’s Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Authority Reduces Financial Sanctions

At the end of June 2026, in its Afikim Water ruling, Israel’s Supreme Court, for the first time, set out a clear test for calculating financial sanctions under the Consumer Protection Law. The CPFTA quickly adopted the ruling in a legal statement and temporary enforcement directive, changing how sanctions are calculated in practice. Mandatory Recording of Sales Conversations: Implications of Amendment to Israeli Consumer Protection Law for Businesses and Financial Institutions

Amendment 74 to the Consumer Protection Law introduces, for the first time, obligations to record sales-related conversations, retain those recordings, and provide them to consumers upon request. The amendment applies to certain transactions listed in the law where the transaction value exceeds ILS 750, or where the price is unknown at the time of the call.
