On January 21, 2026, the Israel Competition Authority decided to impose a monetary sanction of approximately ILS 8 million on Shufersal, the leading retail chain in Israel, for failing to fully comply with data requests issued pursuant to Section 46(b) of the Economic Competition Law.

On December 30, 2025, the Supervisor of Banks published Directive 412, aimed at instructing banking corporations on providing services to customers subject to international sanctions.

When US President Donald Trump took office, it seemed the question of personal sanctions against extremist right-wingers in Israel was off the table. Indeed, in one of his first decisions, Trump lifted the sanctions imposed on a small number of Jewish settlers whom the United States had accused of committing violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, as well as on several extremist right-wing organizations.

The United States, the European Union, and other countries have been imposing economic sanctions on Israel for quite some time. The recent sanctions imposed on Israeli settlers suspected or convicted of committing violence against Palestinians may be a harbinger of a broad regime of sanctions that may affect business activities in Israel.

Israeli companies in the “risk zone” must ascertain if they are subject to sanctions and adopt a significant sanctions compliance plan.
