A Warning Sign for Managers: New Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against Anthropic
A lawsuit was recently filed against Anthropic and its founders by Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music, two of the world’s largest music publishing companies, together with other music publishers. The lawsuit alleges the unauthorized use of copyrighted musical works to develop, train, and operate Anthropic’s Claude AI models, among the world’s leading AI platforms.

Incentivizing High-Tech Companies and Investment Funds: Israel’s Draft Income Tax and VAT Regulations
As a rule, foreign residents investing in Israel are exempt from Israeli capital gains tax, unless their activities are considered a business or are attributable to a permanent establishment in Israel. Investment funds that invest in Israel, however, are not necessarily eligible for this exemption, even where their limited partners are passive investors. This distinction may discourage foreign investment in Israel.

Cardiology Association Petition Leads to Reconsideration of Budget Cuts
We are proud to represent the Israel Heart Society in a High Court petition challenging budget cuts that could have affected the availability and quality of public cardiology services, particularly life-saving catheterization procedures. Following the petition filed by Gal Livshits and Yoav Schmidt of our firm, the State announced that it would defer a substantial portion of the cuts, reassess the pricing implications, and provide additional funding for afternoon catheterization services.

Israel’s Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority (CMISA) is seeking to establish a regulatory framework for approving listings of new virtual currencies by licensed crypto service providers. The new initiative follows a surge in virtual-currency activity in Israel, where hundreds of thousands of customers receive crypto financial services involving billions of shekels.

Sanctions on Trade with Israeli Settlements in the West Bank
On September 8, 2026, the foreign ministers of twelve countries issued a joint statement concerning trade restrictions on goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Three signatories—the UK, France, and Canada—announced their intention to impose national import bans. Five European countries have already implemented such measures.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Shareholder Dispute Referred to Arbitration
We are representing Richard Deitz, a shareholder in Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club and Chairman of VR Capital Group, in a shareholder dispute concerning the club's ownership structure. Following steps taken by the other shareholders which, according to Deitz, were intended to prevent him from increasing his stake in the club, we applied to the court for interim relief pending resolution of the dispute through arbitration. Under the court's decision, the dispute will proceed to arbitration, including the question of Deitz's right of first refusal to acquire additional shares in the club. Renuar and Castro-Hoodies to Launch Chinese Sportswear Brand ANTA in Israel
Adv. Ilan Blumenfeld and Adv. Shay Morhaim of our firm represented the Renuar Group in a strategic transaction with the Castro-Hoodies Group to launch the Chinese sportswear brand ANTA in Israel. Under the transaction, a joint venture will be established, with Castro-Hoodies holding a 51% interest and Renuar, together with Israel Chen, who will serve as the company's CEO, holding the remaining 49%. Operations are expected to commence in 2027 and will include retail stores, wholesale distribution, and online sales, leveraging the retail infrastructure of the Renuar-ING Group.

Before Launching a Promotional Sweepstakes in Israel, Ensure You Have a Permit
Section 225 of the Penal Law prohibits, among other things, holding sweepstakes. A sweepstakes is any arrangement that enables participants to win cash, a cash equivalent, or another benefit, where winning depends more on chance than on understanding or ability. Holding a sweepstakes without an appropriate permit is a criminal offense, even where the organizer’s intentions are innocent and the sweepstakes is intended solely to promote its business.

Dedicated License to Provide Guarantees in Israel
On July 26, 2026, the Israeli Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority published a policy document for implementing a reform in the guarantee market, along with a draft update to the licensing procedure for regulated financial services and supplementary draft circulars. Public comments were accepted until August 16, 2026, and discussions of the comments will be held on September 7, 2026.

Israel Securities Authority Publishes Draft Directive Allowing Licensees to Publicize Past Returns on Portfolios
On August 5, 2026, the Israel Securities Authority (ISA) published a new draft directive issued under the Regulation of Investment Advice, Investment Marketing and Portfolio Management Law,1995, The directive will supersede its 2011 directive and allow, for the first time, licensees to publicize past returns on portfolios. Public comments will be accepted until September 4, 2026.

Update for Employers: Increase in Israeli Convalescence Pay Rate
An extension order was published in Israel on August 18, 2026, updating the rate of employers’ contributions toward employees’ convalescence and vacation expenses for 2026. According to the extension order, an employer’s contribution toward employees’ convalescence and vacation expenses for 2026 will be ILS 451.50 per day, replacing the previous rate of ILS 418.
