The Legal Assistance Between States Law: A Violation of Suspects' Rights?

Recently, in an effort to intensify the fight against international crime, the Knesset passed an amendment to the Legal Assistance Between States Law, 1998, which expands the authorities' powers to confiscate assets located in Israel belonging to individuals against whom criminal proceedings have been opened in foreign countries. This amendment raises critical legal dilemmas and questions regarding the rights of suspects and third parties. Adv. Shir Rozenzweig, who specializes in regulatory enforcement and white-collar crime, addresses these issues and more.

Insider Trading: An Interview with Adv. Hadar Israeli

About six months after the indictment was filed, the trial of Shay Lipman opened at the Tel Aviv District Court. Lipman, a former senior real estate analyst, is accused of profiting approximately 400,000 NIS from trading securities after being exposed to sensitive information and using insider information. As an expert in white-collar crime, Adv. Hadar Israeli was interviewed by Globes and explained the charges against Lipman, the expected penalty, and the challenges anticipated for both the prosecution and the defense.

Regulation: Internal Enforcement and Compliance

Yesterday, Dr. Zvi Gabbay, the head of our firm’s Capital Market Department, lectured for compliance officers at BDO’s financial academy. Zvi’s lecture focused on internal enforcement, which can significantly mitigate corporations’ exposure to enforcement proceedings being instituted by regulatory authorities, significantly reduce the pecuniary sanctions that might be imposed in respect of violations, and contribute to a corporation’s good reputation for maintaining a culture of compliance and integrity.
