Our firm hosted a webinar this morning for in-house counsel on the topic of engaging with service providers. The webinar was held in collaboration with the ACC, the Israeli Association of Corporate Counsel, and was attended by 130 in-house counsel. Adv. Employment: When Is It Permissible to Fire an Employee Due to Posts on Social Media?

The Regional Labor Court dismissed the claim of an employee who was terminated shortly after Hamas’s October 7 attack, after posting verses from the Quran interpreted as incitement to terrorism. As an expert in labor law, Globes interviewed Netta Bromberg on the ruling. She noted, “This is a ruling of considerable complexity, as it deals not only with legal matters but also with issues of interpretation and cultural context—a multifaceted and weighty subject.”

Employment Law: Workers’ Rights during Passover

Lior Girshevitz, an associate in our firm’s Employment Department, was interviewed by N12 for its guide on workers’ rights during the Passover holiday. Lior noted, “There is no legal obligation requiring an employer to make the workplace kosher for Passover. Consequently, an employee has no legal right not to come to the workplace even if it is not kosher according to Jewish law.”

Guide to Working Parents’ Rights – Jacki Silbermann Interviewed by Israel Hayom

As an employment law expert, Jacki Silbermann was interviewed by Israel Hayom about the rights of working parents. With regard to shortened work days, Jacki noted, “There are special arrangements that entitle parents to shorter work days for a certain period of time.  In the absence of a workplace arrangement regarding shorter work days, and if an employee requests such to take care of his children, he must reach an agreement with his employer."

Netta Bromberg Participated in Dun’s 100 Conference for Senior Legal Officials

Yesterday, Dun’s 100 hosted a conference for senior legal officials in the employment field to discuss the repercussions of Operation Swords of Iron on the Israeli labor market. Netta Bromberg, the head of our firm’s Employment Department, noted during the discussion that “on October 7, we woke up to a legal vacuum in the field of labor relations. We need to solve this large legal vacuum with common sense and good will. This should be reflected in how businesses handle employee statements, layoffs and downsizing, unpaid leave, and more.”

The pandemic is over and employers are demanding employees return from remote work back to the office, despite some employees’ reluctance. Netta Bromberg, the head of our firm’s Employment Department, was interviewed by TheMarker for an article on the subject. Netta noted, “Not every change in employment conditions constitutes a worsening of conditions, especially not an evident one, that allows an employee to qualify for resignation as dismissal. The employer has a workplace and a business to manage, and he has the authority to manage it as he sees fit, including demanding that employees work from the office.”

Netta Bromberg, the head of our firm's Employment Department, lectured to a professional study course at the Israel Bar Association’s Midrasha – National Attorney's Academy. The lecture addressed expansion orders and collective bargaining agreements. Netta also touched on conducting legal analysis during due diligence procedures.

Our firm co-hosted with Dueti a meetup for HR managers from a number of leading firms in Israel. Netta Bromberg, the head of our firm’s Employment Department, opened the meetup with a lecture on the legal aspects of HR interfaces and employee management. Seven HR managers also lectured as part of the event.

Conference: The High-Tech Employment World

We hosted members of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) for the conference The High-Tech Employment World.  The conference focused on key issues in the Israeli high-tech employment market and included diverse lectures on such topics as non-competition clauses in employment agreements, the workforce as a critical element in the workplace, and more. Among the speakers at the conference were Micky Barnea, our firm’s managing partner; Nani Maoz, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Everest; and firm lawyers Harel Perlmutter, Netta Bromberg, Inbar Gorelick, and Amos E. Rosenzweig.

Israeli Court Rules Foreign Workers Not Entitled to Old-Age Pension

The Haifa District Court recently adjudicated on the rights to a pension of a group of foreign workers who had finished their employment and subsequently left Israel. The court determined, as a general rule, that a foreign worker who is not a resident of Israel is not entitled to old-age pension from the National Insurance Institute. Amos E. Rosenzweig, a special of counsel at our firm and former general counsel at the NII, sheds lights on this issue in an article for Calcalist.
